1) Ramp for WB U.S. 54/400 to Wichita Mid-Continent Airport is now OPEN. Project has been suspended for the winter. Very little work remains but fabrication of bridge bearings will require 8-12 weeks. Also, the application of a polymer overlay on the bridge deck is temperature dependent.
2) I-135/U.S. 54/400 (Kellogg) Interchange
On Saturday, Nov. 14:
- Crews will be striping pavement for traffic changes.
- Traffic may be switched to the south side of the new bridge over Hydraulic (EB Kellogg) Saturday. The ramps to I-135 will not be open when the switch is made (but should be by Nov. 21).
- From 7am until as late as 9am Saturday, the Washington St. to EB Kellogg entrance ramp will be CLOSED while an ovehead sign is installed on EB Kellogg.
- Overhead sign installations will cause interruptions in traffic flow on EB Kellogg Saturday morning into afternoon (with assistance from KS Highway Patrol). Short term closures will be necessary. WB Kellogg traffic interruptions in the afternoon.
Ongoing:
- WB & EB Kellogg from Washington to Grove are restricted to two lanes of traffic
- Hydraulic is closed under Kellogg
- Ramps from Kellogg to I-135 (NB & SB) are CLOSED until late November
- 50 mph on I-135 between 1st St. and Harry St.
- 50 mph on NB I-135 between Lincoln St. and 1st St.
- Detour for through traffic on U.S. 54/400 to NB & SB I-135 is routed to I-235
3) I-135 & 47th St. South
- Three lanes of SB Broadway traffic on the north side of the 47th St. intersection will be divided into one left turn lane, one for through traffic, and one for right turns. The lane restrictions on the south side of the intersection will facilitate the installation of three large storm water pipes.
- NO LEFT TURN from WB 47th St. to SB Broadway. Detour is one block west on Water St.
- No right turn from EB 47th St. to SB Broadway. Detour is Water St.
Some traffic control generalities:
- Generally, there will be two lanes of traffic for each direction on 47th St. west of the interstate. There will be times when only one lane for each direction is possible.
- East of the interstate on 47th St. there will be single lane traffic for each direction when bridge construction begins.
- A barrier wall will be placed on the southbound I-135 to westbound 47th St. ramp. Single lane traffic will continue while the ramp is expanded.
- No left turns will be allowed onto Ida for eastbound 47th St. traffic.
- A temporary traffic signal will be installed at Emporia St. to allow access onto 47th St. from adjacent businesses.
