The People Saving People (PSP) Award is presented to the person or organization who receives the highest accumulated scoring from the voting members of the Transportation Safety Conference (TSC) Planning Committee. This award is open to any individual or organization that advocates safety and has a positive effect in transportation safety behavior.

General Criteria

Any safety advocate may submit up to three separate and independent nominations.  Nominations cannot be combined on one form.  For example, nominations will not be accepted for an individual and the group the individual is employed by on the same nomination form.  If a nominator wants to nominate both an individual and the project they work for, then two separate nomination forms must be submitted.

The nominee’s efforts must have significantly contributed to the improvement of transportation safety.

The award may be given to an individual or group.

Previous award winners in a particular category must wait 5 years before they can be reconsidered in the same category.

The nominee’s efforts must have significantly contributed to the improvement of transportation safety.

The judges will be the members of the Kansas Traffic Safety Conference Planning Committee.

The award(s) will be presented at the closing luncheon of the Kansas Transportation Safety Conference.

Field-Related Criteria

Community Leadership and Engineering:

Nominees for this category may include, but are not limited to legislative members or bodies, governmental units, engineering, corporate sponsors, and corporate leaders.  A nominee in this category must have demonstrated an exceptional personal or organizational involvement in leading efforts to reduce safety-related problems and unsafe driving activities.     Initiation of substantial roadway engineering solutions or passages of impaired driving or occupant protection legislation are some of the examples of award criteria in this field.

Education and Information:

Nominees for this category may include, but are not limited to students, schools, school districts, businesses, service groups, religious groups, media, and citizens.  This field focuses on public awareness of highway safety, public involvement, and initiation of ideas that target a safer community.  Initiation of ideas to change public attitudes and behavior toward traffic safety would also fall into this category.  Included in this category would be research, data collection and analysis of a potential and/or existing traffic safety problem coupled with a viable solution. 

Enforcement, Adjudication, and Response:

Nominees for this category may include, but are not limited to EMT, fire, law enforcement, and court personnel.  This field focuses on enforcement and adjudication regarding all highway safety initiatives.  Another focus for this field may include a person’s effort resulting in faster response times to life threatening injuries or expanded/exceptional services in the area of law enforcement.
