Project work is scheduled to be completed on Saturday, July 23(NEW 7-20-16)

WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES: Westbound I-435 ONE LEFT LANE from Pflumm Road to Santa Fe Drive CLOSED beginning at 8 p.m on Friday, July 22, then westbound I-435 SECOND LEFT LANE from Pflumm Road to Santa Fe Drive CLOSED beginning at 10 p.m. for pavement striping work, reopening at 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 23. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Saturday, July 23. (NEW 7-20-16)

WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES: Northbound I-35 ONE LEFT LANE from Pflumm Road to 95th Street CLOSED beginning at 8 p.m on Friday, July 22, then northbound I-35 SECOND LEFT LANE from Pflumm Road to 95th Street CLOSED beginning at 10 p.m. for conduit work, reopening at 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 23. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Saturday, July 23. (NEW 7-20-16)

WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT FULL ROAD & RAMP CLOSURES: Southbound I-35 from 87th Street to I-435 FULLY CLOSED to traffic for the setting of bridge girders on the eastbound and westbound I-435 mainline bridges beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday-Friday, July 21-22 and reopening at 5 a.m. Friday-Saturday, July 22-23, weather permitting. Note: Southbound I-35 ONE LEFT LANE from 75th Street to I-435 will be CLOSED from 8 p.m. until the 10 p.m. full overnight closure begins.  

In addition, these ramps will be closed overnight:

  • Southbound I-35 to westbound I-435 ramp
  • 87th Street to southbound I-35 on-ramp
  • 95th Street to southbound I-35 on-ramp
  • Southbound I-35 to 95th Street off-ramp 

Advance message boards will alert drivers to the overnight full road and ramp closures. Traffic will detour via southbound U.S. 69 to westbound I-435 to access southbound I-35. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Saturday, July 23. (REV. 7-20-16)

WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT FULL ROAD & RAMP CLOSURE: Northbound I-35 at I-435 FULLY CLOSED and the northbound I-35 to westbound I-435 ramp CLOSED overnight for the setting of bridge girders on the eastbound and westbound I-435 mainline bridges beginning at 10 p.m. on Monday, July 25 and reopening at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, weather permitting. Advance message boards will alert drivers to the overnight full road closure. Northbound I-35 traffic will detour via eastbound I-435 to northbound U.S. 69 to access northbound I-35. Northbound I-35 to westbound I-435 ramp traffic will detour via eastbound I-435 to Quivira Road exit to access westbound I-435. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, July 26. K-10, I-435 & Lackman Road Interchange

TWO-WEEK FULL RAMP/ROADWAY CLOSURE: Westbound I-435 to westbound K-10 ramp TWO LANES CLOSED for traffic switch and roadway tie-in construction work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 15 through Monday, July 25, weather permitting. Multiple detour options provided. Traffic can detour via northbound I-435 to 95th Street or 87th Street exits. From 95th Street, traffic can detour via westbound 95th Street to Renner Boulevard, where they will then use northbound or southbound Renner Boulevard to access westbound K-10. From 87th Street exit, traffic will detour back on southbound I-435 to access westbound K-10.

LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURES: Westbound I-435 to Lackman Road exit ramp CLOSED for westbound collector-distributor road construction work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 15 through early October 2016, weather permitting. Westbound I-435 traffic will detour via southbound I-35 to westbound 95th Street to access southbound Lackman Road or via northbound I-435 to eastbound 95th Street to access Lackman Road.  

LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURES: Lackman Road to westbound I-435 entrance ramp CLOSED for westbound collector-distributor road construction work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 15 through early October 2016, weather permitting. Marked detours provided. Southbound Lackman Road traffic will detour via westbound College Boulevard to northbound Renner Boulevard to the K-10 interchange to access westbound I-435. Northbound Lackman Road traffic will detour via westbound 95th Street to the I-435 interchange. 

OVERNIGHT FULL ROAD CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound Lackman Road at I-435 FULLY CLOSED overnight for demolition work on the former westbound I-435 Bridge beginning at 8 p.m. on Monday-Friday, July 18-22 and again on Monday, July 25 and reopening at 5 a.m. on Tuesday-Saturday, July 19-23, and again on Tuesday, July 26, weather permitting. Lackman Road traffic will detour via 105th Street to Santa Fe Trail Drive to 101st Terrace. Access to eastbound I-435 on- and off-ramps will remain available from the south side of the Lackman Road closure. Demolition work will be accomplished by heavy equipment picking away at the bridge structure. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, July 26. (REV. 7-19-16)

Pflumm Road at I-435

WEEKEND-LONG FULL ROAD CLOSURE: Northbound and southbound Pflumm Road at I-435 between 105th Street and 107th Street CLOSED for bridge demolition work on the eastbound I-435 bridge beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 23 through 5 a.m. on Monday, July 25. Marked detour via College Boulevard to Quivira Road to 103rd Street. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Monday, July 25. (NEW 7-21-16)


I-35 from Southwest Boulevard to 95th Street Resurfacing Project

WEEKDAY/WEEKEND DAY OVERNIGHT LANE & RAMP CLOSURES:  The following I-35 lane and ramps CLOSED for resurfacing work. (NEW 7-22-16)

I-435

WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound I-435 from Shawnee Mission Parkway to 95th Street will have varying LANE CLOSURES for pothole repair work via a mobile operation on Monday, July 25 between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Monday, July 25. (NEW 7-22-16)

U.S. 69 & 119th Street Interchange

WEEKEND-LONG RAMP CLOSURES: Northbound U.S. 69 at 119th Street entrance and exit ramps FULLY CLOSED for mill and overlay work on the ramp pavement beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 22 and reopening to all traffic at 5 a.m. on Monday, July 25, weather permitting. SPECIAL NOTE: Northbound U.S. 69 over the 119th Street Bridge is already reduced to ONE OPEN LANE for bridge repair work currently underway. Also, the City of Overland Park has a resurfacing project on adjacent Blue Valley Parkway with overnight and weekend varying lane and ramp closures. Advance message boards are in place alerting traffic to the weekend-long ramp closures. There will be no marked detour, though northbound U.S. 69 traffic can use College Boulevard ramps as a suggested detour route to access 119th Street. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Monday, July 25. (NEW 7-19-16)

U.S. 69 over Missouri River Bridge Replacement Project (MoDOT/KDOT Project) > #us69moriverbridge

WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 Platte Purchase Bridge over the Missouri River CLOSED for bridge inspection work beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 25 through 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, then on Tuesday-Thursday, July 26-28 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists will need to use alternate routes. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Thursday, July 29. (NEW 7-22-16)

Merriam Lane Pavement Replacement Project

24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Eastbound Merriam Lane will be CLOSED and detoured onto I-35 exiting at Lamar Avenue/24th Street. Westbound Merriam Lane will have ONE OPEN LANE for approximately 30 days beginning on Tuesday, July 5. Once the eastbound lanes are constructed, the traffic detour will flip, and the westbound traffic will be detoured onto I-35. Project work is scheduled to be completed in Summer 2016. I-35 & 95th Street Diverging Diamond Interchange Project

24/7 LONG-TERM INTERCHANGE CLOSURE: Northbound I-35 to 95th Street exit ramp and 95th Street to northbound I-35 entrance ramp CLOSED to all through traffic beginning at 10 p.m. on Sunday, February 21 through Late August 2016, as project work will take place to reconstruct the existing diamond interchange into a new diverging diamond interchange. Bradshaw & Gillette Streets at Marshall Drive Intersections

PERMANENT FULL ROADWAY CLOSURES: Gillette Street at Marshall Drive intersection was CLOSED permanently beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6 and Bradshaw Street at Marshall Drive intersection will CLOSE permanently beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 8 for utility and cul-de-sac construction work. Both local streets will be closed at the Marshall Drive intersections permanently as crews complete construction work to turn both intersections into cul-de-sacs as part of the overall 95th Street and I-35 Diverging Diamond Interchange Project. Gillette Street is currently a one-way southbound roadway between Marshall Drive and 94th Place, and with this Marshall Drive intersection closure it will become a two-way roadway permanently. The cul-de-sac construction work will be completed in May 2016. (REV. 1-6-16)

LONG-TERM FULL ROADWAY CLOSURE: Lenexa Drive from Rosehill Road to Westgate Street FULLY CLOSED beginning on Tuesday, May 3 through early July 2016 for work related to the upcoming 95th Street and I-35 Diverging Diamond Interchange Project. Lenexa Drive reopens to limited access through late August. Project work ins scheduled to be completed in early July 2016. (REV. 4-25-16)

LONG-TERM 24/7 FULL ROADWAY CLOSURE:  Northbound and southbound Lenexa Drive from 95th Street to Westgate Street CLOSED for roadway reconstruction beginning at 10 p.m. on Sunday, February 21 and will reopen on Friday, June 24. Upon reopening, Lenexa Drive will have access to Rosehill Road and Westgate Street (but not 95th Street) until the remaining interchange work is completed in August. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, June 24. (NEW 2-18-16) 

Westgate Drive

LONG-TERM 24/7 FULL ROADWAY CLOSURE:  Northbound and southbound Westgate Drive from Lenexa Drive to the Super 8 Hotel Entrance CLOSED for utility work and roadway reconstruction beginning at 10 p.m. on Sunday, February 21 and will reopen on in mid-July 2016. Upon reopening, Westgate Drive will only have access to Lenexa Drive (not 95th Street) until the remaining interchange work is completed in August. Project work is scheduled to be completed in mid-July 2016. (REV. 6-24-16) 

I-35 & I-435 Interchange Long-Term Loop Ramp Closure 

24/7 LONG-TERM LOOP RAMP CLOSURE: Southbound I-35 to eastbound I-435 loop ramp CLOSED for pavement reconstruction and tie-in work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 10 p.m. on Monday, April 11 through late October 2016, weather permitting. SB I-35 to EB I-435 ramp traffic to detour via southbound I-35 to southbound U.S. 69 to eastbound I-435 or via eastbound 119th Street northbound I-35 to eastbound I-435. We recommend that drivers use the detour route via southbound U.S. 69, and NOT the eastbound 119th Street route. The eastbound 119th Street detour route is provided as a backup marked detour route for those drivers who miss the southbound U.S. 69 detour route. Project work is scheduled to be completed in Late October 2016. (REV. 3-24-16)

Westbound I-435 to Northbound I-35 Ramp Long-Term 60-Day Closure

60-DAY LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURE: Westbound I-435 to northbound I-35 entrance ramp CLOSED for ramp reconstruction work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31 and reopening sometime on Friday, July 29. Westbound I-435 marked detour via northbound U.S. 69 to access northbound I-35. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, July 29. (NEW 5-25-16)


I-35, I-435 & U.S. 69 KC Scout DMS Board Retrofit Project 

WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT SHORT-TERM FULL ROAD CLOSURES: There will be varying lane and overnight needed as part of a KC Scout Dynamic Message Sign Retrofit Project to bring seven sign board’s internal operating systems up-to-date. Project work includes removal of the existing boards from the roadway which will then be moved to another location, so that new internal operating equipment can be installed within the signs. The signs will look exactly the same externally as only internal components are being replaced. Temporary message boards will be in place until these original boards are retrofitted and reinstalled. Each sign is expected to take approximately two weeks to be completed and reinstalled, weather permitting.  Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in December 2016. (NEW 7-14-16)

There are seven different DMS locations primarily in Johnson County with the exception of one location in Wyandotte County as follows:

Location 1: Northbound U.S.69 one-half a mile north of 135th Street/Santa Fe Street.
Location 2: Northbound I-35 one-quarter mile north of 127th Street. Scheduled for removal: July 14, 2016.
Location 3: Southbound I-35 one-half mile north of 95th Street. Scheduled for removal: July 18, 2016. 
Location 4: Northbound I-35 one-half mile north of 24th Street.
Location 5: Northbound and southbound I-35 one-half mile north of Roe Lane.
Location 6: Southbound I-435 one-quarter mile north of 79th Street.
Location 7: Eastbound I-435 one-quarter mile east of Mission Road.

I-35 from Southwest Boulevard to 95th Street Resurfacing Project

WEEKDAY/WEEKEND OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES: On Wednesday, March 23, weather permitting, a concrete pavement repair and asphalt overlay project will begin on a 10-mile stretch of northbound and southbound I-35 from 95th Street to Southwest Boulevard, including all adjacent interchange ramps (Johnson County). Crews will complete partial and full depth patching to the existing concrete pavement, followed by a 4-inch asphalt overlay on various sections, and all new permanent pavement markings. Work will take place overnight beginning at 8 p.m. and reopening to all traffic at 5 a.m. the following morning, daily, Wednesday and Thursday; and on weekends from 8 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Saturday; and from 8 p.m. Saturday through late Sunday afternoon. Project work is scheduled to be completed in Late October 2016. (NEW 3-10-16)

I-35 from 151st Street to Santa Fe Street/135th Street Pavement Reconstruction Project

24/7 TRAFFIC SHIFT: All northbound I-35 traffic will be shifted onto the southbound I-35 lanes by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, weather permitting, through late September 2016. Both northbound and southbound I-35 will be reduced to two lanes each direction in the final traffic configuration throughout the project duration. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late September 2016. (NEW 3-29-16)

24/7 LONG-TERM DUAL RAMP CLOSURES: Old U.S. 56 to northbound I-35 entrance ramp will be FULLY CLOSED, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29 through late September 2016. Northbound I-35 to Santa Fe Street/135th Street exit ramp will be FULLY CLOSED, 24/7 round the clock, sometime during the day on Tuesday, March 29, through late September 2016. A marked detour will be provided.  Old U.S. 56 traffic will detour either northbound K-7 to eastbound K-10 or southbound on K-7 to 151st Street to access northbound I-35. Northbound I-35 traffic will detour via eastbound 119th Street to southbound Strang Line Road or via eastbound 151st Street to northbound Mur-Len Road to access Santa Fe Street/135th Street.  Project work is scheduled to be completed in late September 2016. (NEW 3-29-16)

24/7 LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURE: Santa Fe Street/135th Street to southbound I-35 entrance ramp will be FULLY CLOSED, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, weather permitting,through late September 2016. A marked detour will be provided. See detour map above. Santa Fe Street/135th Street traffic will detour via southbound Mur-Len Road to westbound 151st Street or via northbound Ridgeview Road to eastbound 119th Street to access southbound I-35. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late September 2016. (NEW 3-29-16)

K-10 Eastbound over Sunflower Road Bridge Repair Project

24/7 LONG-TERM LANE CLOSURE: Eastbound K-10 RIGHT LANE over the Sunflower Road Bridge and on either side of the bridge CLOSED, 24/7 round the clock, for repair work beginning on Monday, June 6 through November 2016. Project work is scheduled to be completed in November 2016. (NEW 6-3-16) 

U.S. 69 from Blue Valley Parkway to 215th Street KC Scout Expansion Project

WEEKDAY WORK & SHOULDER IMPACTS: On Monday, February 15, a project will begin to expand the KC Scout dynamic message signs and cameras along U.S. 69 from the Blue Valley Parkway ramp to 215th Street. The majority of the project work will take place beyond the roadway shoulders on the highway right of way. There may be some occasional shoulder closures. Drivers should expect only minimal delays, primarily minor impacts only from trucks entering and leaving the project work zone throughout the project duration. Project work is scheduled to be completed by mid-July 2016. (NEW 2-15-16)

U.S. 69 Over 119th Street Bridge Repair Project

24/7 LONG-TERM LANE CLOSURE: Northbound U.S. 69 RIGHT LANE over the 119th Street Bridge CLOSED, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, throughout the project duration. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late November 2016. (REV. 7-1-16) 

U.S. 69 Northbound Blue River Bridge Replacement Project

24/7 LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURE: 179th Street to northbound U.S. 69 entrance ramp CLOSED for adjacent bridge overlay work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 2 throughout the project duration, weather permitting. A marked detour will be provided. 179th Street ramp traffic will detour via southbound U.S. 69 to 199th Street exit and then back on northbound U.S. 69 to 179th street exit. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late November 2016. (NEW 6-1-16) 

24/7 LONG-TERM LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 over the Blue River Bridge will continue to be reduced to one lane each direction, placed side-by-side on the southbound U.S. 69 bridge,  throughout the project duration. Northbound U.S. 69 traffic currently entering the work zone travels in the right lane, but after tomorrow’s traffic switch, northbound U.S. 69 traffic will enter the work zone in the left lane and then be moved into the right lane just north of the 179th Street Bridge, before they cross over to the southbound side of U.S. 69. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late November 2016. (NEW 6-1-16) 

 

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY

 

K-7/U.S. 73/4th Street & Poplar Avenue Intersection Improvement Project 

24/7 ROAD & LANE CLOSURES: Northbound K-7/U.S. 73/4th Street from Pennsylvania Street to Linn Street will be reduced to ONE OPEN LANE and Poplar Avenue from 2nd Street to 4th Street CLOSED, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 27 throughout the project duration. Traffic will follow a marked detour via southbound Spruce Street or northbound Marion Street to 2nd Street to access Poplar Avenue. Later in the project during Phase Two construction, southbound K-7/U.S. 73/4th Street from Linn Street to Pennsylvania Street will be reduced to one open lane. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late Fall 2016. (NEW 6-24-16)

K-32 Over I-70/KTA Bridge Replacement Project

LONG-TERM FULL BRIDGE CLOSURE: Eastbound and westbound K-32 Bridge I-70/Kansas Turnpike will be FULLY CLOSED to all traffic for construction of a new replacement bridge beginning early morning on Monday, February 22 in Leavenworth County. On Monday, January 4, a replacement project began on the K-32 Bridge over I-70/Kansas Turnpike in Leavenworth County. Project work includes replacement of the existing 310-foot steel girder bridge (with 28-foot wide roadway) with a 325-foot welded plate girder bridge (with 47-foot wide roadway). Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work. This KDOT bridge replacement construction project oversight will be managed in conjunction with our partner agency, the Kansas Turnpike Authority. Preliminary preparation work on the project began this past Monday, January 4. Beginning in late February 2016, eastbound and westbound K-32 over the I-70/KTA bridge will be closed to all traffic throughout the project duration. A marked detour will be provided. K-32 traffic will detour via K-7 north to U.S. 24/40 west and south back to K-32 and vice versa. Project work is scheduled to be completed in early January 2017. (REV. 4-29-16)

 

 

WYANDOTTE COUNTY

 

I-70 & I-635 Interchange Dual Bridge Repair Project

LONG-TERM LANE & RAMP CLOSURES: A dual bridge repair project will begin on I-70 and I-635 with the following closures taking place beginning at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11 through the project duration. Project work is scheduled to be completed in early September 2016.  (REV. 5-10-16) 

Westbound I-70 over the Quarry Road  bridge will be reduced to two open lanes, 24/7 round the clock.

Southbound I-635 to westbound I-70 ramp CLOSED. Marked detour will be provided via K-32/Kansas Avenue west to Turner Diagonal. An optional detour will be State Avenue west to Turner Diagonal.

Northbound I-635 to westbound I-70 ramp CLOSED. Marked detour will be provided via K-32/Kansas Avenue west to Turner Diagonal. An optional detour will be State Avenue west to Turner Diagonal.  

I-435 at I-70 Interchange Multi-Bridge Repair Project

LONG-TERM LANE & RAMP CLOSURES: A multi-bridge repair project will begin on the I-435 bridges at the I-70 interchange with the following closures taking place beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10 through the project duration. Project work is scheduled to be completed in early October 2016.  (REV. 5-9-16) 

Northbound and southbound I-435 from north of I-70 to south of I-70 over the bridges will be reduced to two open lanes, 24/7 round the clock.

Westbound I-70 to southbound I-435 ramp CLOSED. Marked detour via westbound I-70 to northbound I-435 to westbound State Avenue to access southbound I-435. A suggested secondary detour route via 110th Street back to eastbound I-70 to 78th Street exit back to westbound I-70 to northbound I-435 to westbound State Avenue to access southbound I-435. 

I-635 & K-5 Interchange Tower Lighting Project 

WEEKDAY SHOULDER CLOSURES: The I-635 and K-5 interchange will have intermittent shoulder closures for a high tower light replacement project beginning on Monday, April 4 through early June 2016. All adjacent interchange ramps will remain open. Project work is scheduled to be completed in early June 2016. (NEW 3-30-16)

U.S. 69 over Missouri River Bridge Replacement Project (MoDOT/KDOT Project) > #us69moriverbridge

24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from I-635 (in Missouri) to Kindleberger Road in Kansas will be reduced to one lane in each direction, 24/7, beginning on Friday, October 24 for bridge replacement work. Both northbound and southbound U.S. 69 traffic will travel on the existing northbound U.S. 69 bridge (Platte Purchase Bridge). A crossover will be used to shift southbound U.S. 69 traffic to the existing Platte Purchase Bridge. The traffic switch is scheduled for Friday, October 31, 2014 and traffic will remain in this configuration until Thursday, December 1, 2016. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Thursday, December 1, 2016. (NEW 10-27-14)

U.S. 169 (Rainbow Boulevard)

WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURES: Northbound U.S. 169 Rainbow Boulevard at the West 39th Street Intersection will have varying lane closures for adjacent building construction beginning on Monday, September 28. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late May 2017. (NEW 9-28-15)
